UXwiki

Design and development · 2020

UX keeps growing into new disciplines, and each one brings its own vocabulary. Look a term up and you get a flood of mixed search results. Jakob Nielsen has talked about vocabulary inflation in UX causing miscommunication.

UXwiki gives a short definition of each UX term, plus a curated list of articles for going deeper, from Nielsen Norman Group, UXmatters, UX Magazine, Smashing Magazine, UX Collective, UX Planet, and Prototypr.

I took the idea to Lakshmi Narayanan. He took on content strategy and UX writing, and I did the branding, UI and UX design, and development.

The name is UX plus wiki. The wordmark uses a curvy, heavy sans-serif to feel bold and credible, while the interface sticks to black, white, greys, and system fonts so it feels minimal and native.

Interaction in UXwiki

We built it as a Jamstack site with Eleventy, starting from Max Böck’s Eleventastic starter kit, and deployed it on Netlify. It scores very well in Lighthouse.
